FAQs

Are you new to ESGR and wish to register for an ESGR Portal account?

As a new ESGR member, your State Committee support staff will add you to the ESGR Portal and you will be sent a user name and initial password. What you can access in the ESGR Portal is based on your role within the ESGR organization. Please complete the appropriate training and be sure that it is confirmed by your State Committee support staff. If you should have access and have not received your ESGR Portal login information, please contact your State Committee support staff.

ESGR members (military and government civilians) with a valid CAC can self-register their CAC after completing thier initial log into the ESGR Portal account. Please see "How do I register my CAC within the ESGR Portal" below for further information.

NOTE: DO NOT share your ESGR account with anyone. ESGR IT will not ask for your password.

When your password expires you will be prompted by the system to change it. You will be redirected to the Change Password page where you just need to follow the simple instructions on your screen.

If you forget your password, you can use the "Forgot Password" button on the login screen and follow the instruction. You can also contact the ESGR IT Helpdesk at 1-800-336-4590 Option 3 or osd.mc-alex.ousd-p-r.mbx.esgr-it-support@mail.mil.

Two-factor authentication is an approach to authentication in which the user provides two of the three independent means of identification: "something you know," and "something you have" or "something you are." The "something you know" is typically the combination of a user name and password. The ESGR Portal achieves the second factor through the use of devices that users already have, such as mobile phones, landline phones or computers, to send a one-time passcode that will then grant access to the system once entered.

NOTE: The user, once receiving the two factor passcode, has only 3 minutes to enter it into the system.

SMS is a communication protocol allowing the interchange of short text messages. ESGR uses 3rd party services to send SMS to the registered mobile devices. The SMS capability is a communication channel that sends a validated one-time passcode to the user as a login credential. This channel is used after the first factor credentials (user name and password) have been established.

IVR is a telecommunications technology that allows a computer to detect voice inputs between the ESGR Portal and any telephone. The IVR is a communication channel that sends an outbound automated voice call to deliver a certified one-time passcode to the user as a login credential to the ESGR Portal.

A Common Access Card (CAC) is the primary token for protecting private keys associated with identity, signature, and encryption certificates issued by the DoD PKI to DoD eligible users. CACs are issued by Verification Officials who are recognized as trusted agents of the DoD PKI for issuing certificates to users.

CACs are issued at DEERS/RAPIDS terminals. To locate the nearest DEERS/RAPIDS office, visit the https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl and search by city, state, or zip code. Note that a smart card reader and middleware are required to enable a workstation to log in using CAC.

DoD eligible users are active duty uniformed services personnel, members of the Selected Reserve, DoD civilian employees, and personnel working on site at DoD facilities using DoD network and e-mail services. Individuals who access DoD information systems from a remote location, such as accessing web servers, are not generally eligible for CAC certificates. Individuals who conduct business with, access DoD information systems over the Internet, or exchange e-mail with DoD entities are not eligible for CAC certificates unless they also work on site at DoD facilities. DoD allies and coalition partners are not eligible for CAC certificates unless they work on site at DoD facilities.

Volunteers will not be issued a CAC.

Contractors who are eligible for CACs will coordinate with thier supervisors to obtain a CAC

During enrollment, you will be asked to select a question and enter your own answer. This is necessary for your proper identification when resetting your password using self-service. This will allow you to quickly and easily reset your password 24 hours a day without having to contact the helpdesk.

DOD mandates passwords be reset frequently. ESGR currently requires password reset every 120 days. Depending on revisions to DoD requirements, this may change when DoD policy requires.

If your password has been forgotten or your account has been locked, you may be able to unlock it by using the "Forgot Password" password reset self-service. Please click the "Forgot Password" button on the Home page and follow the instructions on your screen.

NOTE: Only the users who have already selected the "challenge questions" and answers will be able to take advantage of this feature.

If utilizing the password reset self-service is unavailable please contact the ESGR IT Support office at (800) 336-4590 (option 3) or osd.mc-alex.ousd-p-r.mbx.esgr-it-support@mail.mil.

The ESGR Portal uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. This is a commonly used method for managing the security of a message transmission on the Internet. DoD regulation requires that all Unclassified and Sensitive Information systems use approved SSL.
